How accurate is the testing?
The testing manufacturer, Sacks Biological, indicates that the tests are over 99% accurate. The testing is conducted in our laboratory by trained medical staff using all appropriate controls. Positive tests, when appropriate, are confirmed through a limited obstetrical ultrasound.
How early can I know?
You can test as early as 10 days after intercourse. We recommend that you wait until 14 after intercourse for the most accurate results. When an egg is fertilized and implanted, the developing placenta begins to produce a hormone called the Human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG. If you are pregnant, this hormone will be present in the blood and is also excreted from the body through the urine.
How do I know. . .for sure?
After pregnancy testing, when appropriate, our medical staff conducts pregnancy confirmation. Not all pregnancies are viable and so you need to know. . .for sure. A limited obstetrical ultra sound can reveal the viability of the pregnancy. It can answer a few basic questions: Is the pregnancy located within the uterus? Is there a beating heart? How far along is the pregnancy? If you do not want to see anything during the ultrasound, that is okay. We respect your wishes.
Why should I know. . .for sure?
When you are looking at your options, you need to be empowered with information. You may not know how far along you are. When you know this information you can make plans. You could be considering termination when your pregnancy is not even viable. It would end in a natural miscarriage. Knowledge empowers you to make decisions you can live with.
